Why This Experience is Unlike Any Other?
Fishing the Texas flats affords an unrivaled challenge that is completely different than freshwater. The clear water provides a glimpse into the world below, so the angler has the unique chance to cast at a fish that they have been able to spot. Then the angler is able to watch everything as the fish responds to the well-done cast, and hopefully takes the fly. Many even view sight fishing as an experience more like that of hunting, in this instance, the prey being of the our many redfish cruising through the beautiful water.
Some of the most enjoyable and challenging fishing can be found on the Texas flats. The pristine, shallow water allows the fish to see everything taking place around them. Since it is the coast, there is generally some wind present, and the angler must consistently deliver a 30-40 foot cast accurately with as little false casting as possible. This is done using a heavy fly, with accuracy being vital. If an angler can correctly and reliably deliver a 40 foot cast in these conditions, their chances at fish will be numerous.
However, new or beginner saltwater anglers should consider this a great chance to sharpen their angling skills and techniques. They may not hook and bring as many fish to the boat as an individual with greater time on the water, but the Port Lavaca fishing guides always are professional, proficient teachers who have worked with all skill levels. Fly Fish Rockport is committed to making sure every angler has quality opportunities at fish, that they develop new skills, and have a great day on the water.
