Rockport Fly Fishing Report

Rockport fly fishing continues to be strong in the greater Rockport, Texas area right now. There are plenty of fish around. You just might have to look for them a bit. With some higher tides lately, it has scattered some of the schooling reds. Instead, we are finding smaller schools or singles or pairs cruising around. Basically, we have to do a little more looking for fish. But they are there. And they are eating. There are very good numbers of Black Drum around right now as well. Not uncommon to find a small school of drum roaming around the flats. Casts have to be precise and pretty much up

Rockport Texas Fishing Report

The storms have passed... for now, Rockport Texas fishing continues to be quite good. Schooled up redfish are seen tailing and roaming the flats. Some significantly low tides as of late have provided lots of tails out there. We have also had some really strong trout action first thing in the mornings. They are very willing to eat topwater flies. While running between flats, we are starting to see a few schools of Jacks chasing bait on the surface. These fish are very willing to eat a fly and can run upwards of 20 lbs. Not a bad idea to have a 10wt rod strung up and ready to go.

A Rockport Fishing Guides Day Off

This is what a day off gets you. Ten old fly lines changed out and ready to be recycled. This time of year, a day off the water is a little more of a rarity. So this means that instead of doing something fun or relaxing, typically the day is filled with chores, paperwork, catching up on emails and pretty much anything else that I could possibly postpone. That and a series of naps mixed in as well. Job one today was to change out fly lines. Again, something that has been needed for a little while but somewhat blocked from my mind. Its a bit tedious to

A nice redfish on the fly near Rockport, Texas. Your Rockport fishing report continues to be quite good. We are coming off a past week or two of fairly high tides, for this time of year. This brought a lot of fish into the bays. We are seeing very good numbers of redfish, black drum and trout throughout all of the bays. Redfish are plentiful in the shallows right now. Most are in two feet or less of water, making the fly fishing outstanding. They will eat a variety of well presented flies. They haven't been too picky necessarily, but it will take a good cast and presentation.

Late April Rockport Texas Fly Fishing Report

Sunny days are bringing out the fish. Fly fishing in Rockport, Texas and surrounding waters has been excellent as of late. The weather has bee cooperative... mostly. Rainy Days on the Flats

Rainy days on the flats of Rockport, Texas Would someone please tell the weatherman that winter is over! We should be basking in far more sunny days this far along in April than we are. Instead, it still feels like February/March out there. Dark, rainy days have still been the norm as of late. This has been making fishing a bit tougher than we would like, but not completely unfortunate. There are fish to be had... IF you can see them. But a change in the weather would certainly be welcome. Other than that, fly fishing in Rockport, Texas has been steady. You just have to think a

Pick and Choose Your Battles

If you see a window of opportunity, TAKE IT!!! You got to love Spring weather patterns. Good one day, scary the next. Kind of the norm for the past/next couple of weeks. But all that aside, it is fishing just fine. You just need to pick and choose your battles. If you see a good weather day, you better take advantage of it this time of year. Because then next four days might just be scary out there. Let's hope that this trend burns off sooner than later and we can look forward to those comfortable, sunny days of early summer soon. ---

Early April Fishing Report – Rockport, TX

Slot red near Rockport, TX It appears that Spring has finally decided to stick around a little while. Temps in the upper 70's to low 80's have become the norm... finally. We certainly appreciate it. And I know the fish do as well. We are starting to see even better numbers of fish on the flats in the greater Rockport area.
