Rockport Fishing Report – March 3rd, 2016

Hooked up and loving it on the flats near Port Aransas, TX Welcome to your first Rockport fishing report for March! And it is certainly looking as though Spring is here and here to stay. This means better and better Rockport fishing reports from here on out. Perfect! We have continued to have very nice weather, for the most part. Temps have been great. Just this pesky wind keeps hanging around every day. Not enough to shut us down usually, but certainly enough to be annoying and make some of the shots at fish a bit tougher. Doable, but tougher. But with the sun shining and water temps

Rockport Fishing Report – February 22nd, 2016

John hooked up in a marsh while hiding from the wind. Wind is the name of the game for your current Rockport fishing report. Brutal wind! Non-stop, hard, brutal wind. And we're sick of it! Actually, your Rockport fishing report is pretty good right now. The wind is certainly making us work for them. But the fish are there. Maybe not as many as we would like to be seeing, but there are still fish. I think this wind has the water so stirred up that many of the fish are just hanging out... somewhere??? But if you can hide as best you can from the wind and

Rockport Fly Fishing Report – February 11th, 2016

Cool shot with the sun setting on San Antonio Bay. Welcome to your mid-February Rockport Fly Fishing Report. Overall, the fishing has been pretty darn good. We have had consistently warmer weather as of late. This has made the fish a lot happier, especially earlier in the day. We've even had a few mornings this week where our best fishing was before 10am. Fish are out and cruising the flats earlier, crashing baitfish in the grass and even tailing a lot more frequently now. We aren't completely in the clear from potential winter weather just yet, but this certainly is looking like the upswing. We have also been

Brennan with a nice redfish on the fly. The Rockport fishing report has been a little interesting as of late. We've had plenty of sunshine and warm days. But with it, we've had a bunch of high winds from any random direction. Even worse, our barometer completely bottomed out for a few solid days. This really seemed to freak out the fish. Finding the fish became very tough. Where you should be seeing many, you would see one. And more than likely, he wasn't that interested anyways. In a word, it has been "tough" lately. Certainly lots of time looking for fish, rather than casting to them. Normally

Echo Prime Fly Rods

So as a Captain and Guide, I have a lot of people ask what gear I prefer, am using or maybe keep in my boat. And I am one of those guides that believes there are no secrets out on the water. I am more than happy to share what I am using, where I am using it and how I am using it. This goes for my selection in flies, leaders, lines, water and of course fly rods. If I can help someone else be successful out there, then perfect. And on that note, I thought I would spend a moment and share what I have in my boat

Rockport Fishing Report – January 26th, 2016

Releasing a nice redfish in St. Charles Bay The weather in Rockport, Texas lately has been great! We've had excellent weather most/all of the winter thus far. And lately, it has really helped keep us out on the water. Besides, down days are boring! With the sun out and daytime temps staying fairly warm, the fishing has remained strong. We are still finding plenty of fish in the mornings, although most are still a little tight. A few will eat, but not the majority. But in the right water and conditions, you can seek out those few that are cruising, tailing or even crashing bait in shallow. You

Rockport Fishing Report – January 13th, 2016

Bob, milking every last second of fly fishing on this fine day Here is your latest Rockport Fishing Report... We have been blessed with a pretty nice run of warm days here lately in Rockport, TX. Mornings remain a little chilly, but the highs have been reaching the mid 60's, which has helped the fishing quite a bit. And winds, all be it from the North still, have remained very light. Combine all that, and your Rockport fishing report is pretty damn good for mid January. No need to get out on the water too early lately. With the cooler temps in the morning, you will do far

Rockport Fishing Report – January 4th, 2016

Carlisle with his first redfish. A stud caught near Rockport, TX Finally a sunnier Rockport fishing report! The sun did in fact show itself today. And what a difference that makes for the fishing. We had targets right out of the gate this morning, and consistently all day. They were a bit sluggish early, due to cooler temps, but the right cast could draw an eat. They were a little tight though. As the day warmed up, so did the fish. They were more and more active as temps rose. More fish cruising shallow, a few tails up and certainly showing more interest in a well presented fly.
