It June. New month, and time for a new Rockport Fishing Report. Especially since it’s been a little bit since our last. So we will bring you up to speed on what you missed and what we are seeing out on the Texas flats these days.

The fishing has been very good. Doesn’t really matter where you choose to fish, it’s just pretty darn solid out there. Big schools, small schools, tails, crashers and anywhere in between. The fish are plenty happy each day and our clients are getting lots of shots. So no complaints there.

It is the beginning time of Summer around here now. So the temps are getting pretty warm, as is the water. So it’s a better morning game than late. But we are still having solid fishing into the early afternoon. So all good there.

But Summer also means crowds. So there are far more people on the water most days. Tournaments are in the area every weekend these days as well. TOURNAMENTS SUCK!!! No two ways about it. They just do. We already have enough boat traffic on the coast. Encouraging even more is not the answer. So we are stuck with that nightmare for the next few months. Ugh!

As for the fishing… We would like to say its just “easy”, but that wouldn’t be entirely true I guess. There are moments out there where you have to try a little. But for the most part, there are large schools moving around all over the place. And they are going to eat anything at all, so long as you get it within their sight. Not exactly rocket science there. Floating, sinking, moving, not moving… it kinda hasn’t mattered.

On the really calm days, they will be a bit tougher to get close to. But most of that is due to the fact that there are ten thousand flats boats out there harassing them every day. But other than that, just get anything to that gigantic mass of redfish and you’re in business.

We have posted a few pics of jacks lately, and are getting a ton of questions. So clearly the jacks are around as well. On the light wind days, they are moving around well. Some around Port A here and there, but much better by POC or Matagorda. Go early in the morning and be ready for combat fishing. There will be lots of boats ripping around chasing the schools, but it can be done. Anything that moves will get eaten. Topwater flies are best, if you can get em out there with the heavy rods. If not, something big and dark stripped crazy fast will work. If not, toss anything out there. It’s a jack and they eat ANYTHING!!!

Looking like more of the same moving forward. Sunny, some wind and temps a bit hotter than we would like for the next little while. The fishing will remain solid for a while longer, before the dog days of Summer begin to set in. But for now, it’s all systems go on the Texas Coast.

We are out every day for the rest of the week this week, and the foreseeable future.  We will continue to report back as we can with what we are seeing out there. Also, we have a new series of videos coming to our Youtube channel as well. Something kinda funny and different to do. Flyfishing is not serious. Or at least it shouldn’t be. So we are gonna have a little fun and make a few funny videos based on the lighter side of red fishing.
