Tying G’s Texas Toad Fly in Olive
Toad style flies are always an excellent option while fly fishing for redfish and black drum on the Texas flats. Our Fly Fish Rockport fly fishing guides use these flies often, in a variety of colors, weights and sizes. Darker colors, like this olive version, are usually our favorites. But lighter shrimp type colors work as well. Or perhaps try tying this same pattern on a 2/0 hook for tarpon? The Toad is also a proven tarpon pattern, particularly in the Florida Keys.
Here, Fly Fish Rockport guide Captain Gibson ties his Texas Toad in a dark olive color. You can learn his tricks and techniques so you can come prepared the next time you fly fish the flats of Texas.
