Your Rockport fishing report for mid October is all about change. Or at least we hope so. But it is looking like we have a little change in the weather, which should shake things up around here a little bit.
Fishing in Rockport, and the surrounding area, is decent right now. It really should be better. But it isn’t bad. Just a bit tougher than expected. High water and very consistent weather has created a little more color in the water than we are used to. Again, not bad by any means. But it is there and can make things a bit more challenging. The high water has the fish spread out. So add in the fact that they can be a little tougher to spot in the off color water, and things can get a little interesting out there. But hope is on the way.
As we speak, we have the first little front blowing through the area in a long while. It was a welcome North wind on the water today, followed by a pretty solid storm this evening. We will continue to have north winds for the next day or so, which should help blow a little of the water out of the bays and allow some of the color to settle as well. All good things.
The fishing has remained pretty good overall though. We are seeing fish every day. And those fish will eat. There are plenty of crab and baitfish in the bays. So there is no shortage of food. The fish are in the spots you expect them to be, and will eat a good presentation. But our shots have been a little limited with the conditions the past week or two.
We expect things to clear up in the next day or so and get right back to where we should be. Fall fishing in the Rockport area is outstanding and should be on track within days. We will keep you informed with an updated Rockport fishing report again in the next day or two. Hopefully with news of clear water and things returning to normal.
There are still some Fall dates available and early winter dates for guided fly fishing are booking up very quickly. If you are interested in chasing redfish on the fly in the Rockport area, contact us and we can get your trips booked.
