baffin bay fly fishing

Brennan with a nice redfish on the fly.

The Rockport fishing report has been a little interesting as of late. We’ve had plenty of sunshine and warm days. But with it, we’ve had a bunch of high winds from any random direction. Even worse, our barometer completely bottomed out for a few solid days. This really seemed to freak out the fish.

Finding the fish became very tough. Where you should be seeing many, you would see one. And more than likely, he wasn’t that interested anyways. In a word, it has been “tough” lately. Certainly lots of time looking for fish, rather than casting to them. Normally not the end of the world. But that becomes a bit tedious when its blowing like crazy and everyone in the boat is working hard to try and get it done.

The good news today though, things have finally started to change. We had a good moving barometer today. Combine that with the sunshine and of course still pretty annoying winds, and it seemed to wake these fish up a bit more. We found fish where we expected them to be. Maybe not in the best numbers, but at least they were there. And some of them were more than happy to eat for us, so long as they were already cruising.

We will continue to blow a little weather in and outta here this week. After what we had early in the week, any change is a good change in my eyes. Coming out of this next little front, I would expect things to get back to normal and fishing to improve a bunch. The weather looks quite nice this weekend, for those who might be interested. Personally, I don’t have a team playing in the Super Bowl that I care about. Additionally, Sundays weather looks perfect. So if anyone wants to get out, contact us and we can get you on some redfish here in Rockport, Texas.
