St Charles Bay Rockport Texas

Releasing a nice redfish in St. Charles Bay

The weather in Rockport, Texas lately has been great! We’ve had excellent weather most/all of the winter thus far. And lately, it has really helped keep us out on the water. Besides, down days are boring!

With the sun out and daytime temps staying fairly warm, the fishing has remained strong. We are still finding plenty of fish in the mornings, although most are still a little tight. A few will eat, but not the majority. But in the right water and conditions, you can seek out those few that are cruising, tailing or even crashing bait in shallow. You MUST be in the right spots though. Or else you will spend the majority of your time searching.

As the day warms up, the fishing has been as well. We are seeing more cruising fish as the temps climb. These fish are far more interested in eating a well presented fly. They are pretty touchy still, but a good cast and presentation can get it done. In the heat of the day, you can find fish in many of the spots you would expect them to be. So trust your choice in water and be patient.

January is now wrapping up and February is almost here. I am booked the remainder of this month, and am filling February quickly. All this warm weather has people itching to get out on the water! I do still have some dates available in February though. If you would like to get out on the water, contact us and we can get you on some redfish here in Rockport, Texas.
