Here is your latest Rockport Fishing Report…
We have been blessed with a pretty nice run of warm days here lately in Rockport, TX. Mornings remain a little chilly, but the highs have been reaching the mid 60’s, which has helped the fishing quite a bit. And winds, all be it from the North still, have remained very light. Combine all that, and your Rockport fishing report is pretty damn good for mid January.
No need to get out on the water too early lately. With the cooler temps in the morning, you will do far more searching than casting for fish. You will find one here and there, although most are fairly reluctant to eat for you… even with the right cast. But as the sun continues to rise, and with it the temps, those fish begin to show themselves. This improvement will continue for the remainder of the day.
We are seeing a few fish tailing here and there… so long as you are in the right water, where they are eating the right things. Others will be cruising happily. While still others will be laid up and almost impossible to move. But, they are out there and you can get it done. But these fish haven’t been easy by any means. They are spooky, touchy, picky, finicky and pretty much annoying as hell. So your casts must be precise, retrieve on point and fly selection solid.
There are still a couple of holes in the calendar for this month. Also, I will be speaking at the Austin Fly Fishers monthly meeting on January 21st. So if you are in the area, swing by and listen to me ramble on about who knows what! Or, if you would just like to get out on the water, contact us and we can get you on some solid winter redfishing action.
