The fly fishing in Rockport has been very good as of late. We are still seeing some fairly high tides in the greater Rockport area. While this does have some of the fish a little spread out and scattered in places, it also allows many of our redfish to move in very close to the banks. We are seeing fish deep in the grass, mangroves and marshes. This has made for some very fun sight fishing.

If you can get your fly into some tight spots in the grass, the fish have been very willing to eat. We are getting them to eat a variety of fly patters while fly fishing in Rockport these days, but small shrimp or finger mullet flies have been our best. But don’t discount a smaller dark bodied crab either. Again, the fish have been very willing to eat, given the right presentation.

We should be experiencing these higher tides for another few weeks. This will continue to allow these fish to move up into the grass and chase the bait. As we move further towards winter, you can expect some of this high water to recede and our winter holds to be more common.
