rockport fly fishing lines

This is what a day off gets you. Ten old fly lines changed out and ready to be recycled.

This time of year, a day off the water is a little more of a rarity. So this means that instead of doing something fun or relaxing, typically the day is filled with chores, paperwork, catching up on emails and pretty much anything else that I could possibly postpone. That and a series of naps mixed in as well.

Job one today was to change out fly lines. Again, something that has been needed for a little while but somewhat blocked from my mind. Its a bit tedious to change out 10 reels worth of line, but not that bad. And don’t think for a second that your Rockport fishing guide is complaining… too badly. Its just one of those things that takes a few hours of my life, that I choose not to make time for. But all is right in the world! Every rod in the quiver is now dialed in with a fresh Airflo fly line.

There is nothing quite like a brand new fly line. It will never be as slick, as clean or as perfect as it is that first day out. I absolutely love it. You get extra distance, smooth stripping and you know everything is perfect. So the labor of changing them all really is a labor of love.

Also, a side note, all my fly lines are recycled each and every year. These lines will be sent to Flyvines in Missoula, Mt. They recycle used fly lines and make useful items such as lanyards, sunglasses retainers, etc. Check them out, and donate your old lines for a good cause.

As for the fishing… The rains and thunderstorms have started to become a thing of the past. Bright days make spotting fish much easier. Slightly lower and cooperative winds are even better. This should be the norm for the coming months. Plenty of fish to be had and they have been fairly grabby on the fly. All in all, a great time to be out on the water with your Rockport fishing guide.
