Slot red near Rockport, TX

After a pretty rough December and early January, mother nature finally decided to cooperate a little bit. The past week has given us favorable/damn near perfect days to be out on the water. We’re talking 70’s, clear and dead calm… PERFECT! It was a far cry from previous weeks. And to have three or four days like this in a row, well deserved. So we took full advantage and got out every day.

A couple morning proved to be a little tricky. Many of the larger reds we found shallow were a little finicky. We had a bunch of follows to our flies, but the eat was a little sparse. Fly changes, presentation changes didn’t exactly “light them up” either. But we were able to pick away at them. The smaller guys, like the photo above, were a little less picky and would eat fairly easily.

As the day warmed up, so did the fishing. Finding nice sized reds that were willing to eat was much easier. The warmer water made the fish really happy. We were able to find fish cruising flats and chasing bait shallow in numerous spots. It was a bunch of fun.

Just to keep us in check though, the weather turned for the past 2 days. But the coming week looks perfect. Temps near 70 with low winds should make for great days on the water. Hit me up if you are interested in getting out on the water.
